About Me

My name's Sally Stone and I create contemporary jewellery & textiles out of constructed fabric, buttons & other materials. Using things unusually, working at different scales, experimenting, upcycling & recycling are all part of what I like to do.

And when I’m not doing that, I’m probably yarnstorming or planning the next yarnstorming project.  These community art projects that I design, deliver and install take the form of outdoor textile artworks, usually on specific themes, often raising money for charity.  They involve lots of people from the local community and those further afield who play a critical role in making it all happen.

Or I might be blogging about what I’ve seen, what I’m doing or what I’ve learnt, including posts on exhibitions, workshops, art and installations.

But I could be running a creative workshop or delivering a talk.

And in case you didn’t know I’m an extreme knitter and a secret haiku writer.

For me, it's all about making, connecting, learning and having fun in a colourful world.  I’m lucky enough to do it all from the beautiful city of York.  And it all began with Grandma’s button tin and a love of colour and texture...
