Lancashire Open Exhibition 2018

Huddled on the Beach - digital print, stitch & poetry - Sally Stone

There's still time to visit the Lancashire Open Exhibition 2018.  It is showing at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk until 19 September 2018.  My piece "Huddled on the Beach" is part of the exhibition.  Using mixed media incorporating digital printing, hand stitching and one of my poems, it forms the start of a new body of work.  The exhibition has taken over lots of different spaces in the gallery so make sure you take them all in.

Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

Here is a taster of other artists exhibiting their work...

Jane Fairhurst - Fetishes for Uncertain Times

And lots more.

Su Blackwell - The Clock Tower (Ormskirk Clockmakers & Watchmakers)

Also, don't forget to take a look at Su Blackwell's work.  Su, an artist who works predominantly in the realm of paper, was commissioned in 2017, as part of A Festival of Tales, to produce a piece inspired by Ormskirk & its history.  Once you've seen her paper clock tower, you can pop round the corner and take a look at the real thing!

Wandering - Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

Aaron Kuiper - Terra Flora (Oil Paint in Hydrogel)

You only have till 11 November to catch this exhibition at Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk so you'd better get your skates on!  It's an exhibition by 10 artists, fascinated by the natural environment.

I was fascinated by Aaron Kuiper's 3D sculptural oil paintings in hydrogel.  Like mini ecosystems with lots of trees, water and rocks, they are quite amazing. Kuiper uses syringes instead of brushes to leave the pigment in the gel.

Julie James-Turner uses Victorian style nightwear to evoke fairy tale forests and gothic notions of death and dreaming...

Julie James-Turner - The Botanist's Sleepwalk

Fab prints of familiar places...

Anthony Ratcliffe - North Sea Holes (Woodcut Print)

Amazing glasswork...

Helen Slater - Evening Pathway (Cast Glass)

I thought this was a photograph at first...

Maggie Hargreaves - Sprouting (Charcoal on Paper)

Looks like the reflections of trees in puddles...

Katie Lenegan - Wild Garden Series - The Waves (Oil on Canvas)

and there's lots more.  Do take a look if you can.

Make Your Mark at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

Ombre Tubes - Kat Button

Make Your Mark, has just finished at Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk.  So if you missed it, here's a bit about it.  The exhibition wanted you to consider the ways in which artists make their marks and to encourage you to make some of your own.  Here's some of the artists' work that I enjoyed while looking round.

The Woolly Hut (Remade) - Kat Button

Kat Button's work crosses several disciplines and focuses on colour and experimentation.  It had a playful, energetic feel that I loved...

Amy Russell's scratchy paintings and collages were both witty and nostalgic...

Your Age - Amy Russell
Dear Lad - Amy Russell

Nathan Pendlebury's work was vibrant and energetic...

Look to the Rainbow 2 - Nathan Pendlebury

Sarah Jane Richard's landscapes suggested an element of decay...

Wanderings and Wonderings 3 - Sarah Jane Richards

It's always worth checking out what's happening at Chapel Gallery if you're in the vicinity.  Go see what's new!

World Illustration Awards 2016 at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

Kate Jenkins - Kate's Plaice The Stitchmongers - Self Initiated (Professional)

On a trip to Ormskirk recently I called in at Chapel Gallery (a favourite haunt) and took a tour round their current exhibition - The Association of Illustrators - World Illustration Awards 2016.

Nicholas Stevenson - Diary of a Time Traveller - Children's Books (Professional)

The awards, which cover 8 categories, brought in over 2300 entries from 64 countries.  This exhibiton includes the winners and a selection of shortlisted work.  The categories cover Advertising, Books, Children's Books, Design, Editorial, Public Realm, Self Initiated and Research & Knowledge Communication.

Josh Patterson - Bramwell Brown Weather Clock - Design (New Talent)

Whether serious or light hearted the work showcases the best illustration work out there.  I've just selected a few of my favourites.  And of course my very favourite was Kate Jenkins' work - but that's not surprising really.  Kate's textile art is witty and wonderful!

Andy Tuohy - Great Modern Artists A To Z - Books (Professional)

Levente Szabo - BAFTA Film Awards Brochures 2016 - Design (Professional)

Better hurry if you want to catch this exhibition - it closes on 6 May 2017.

The Dragon Awakes at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk

This summer as part of the Parbold Street Festival, Parbold residents worked with author, Sarah Schofield and artists, Andy & Sharon Shaw.  Through visual arts and creative writing workshops they developed the story and characters of Sunny the Dragon who lives deep inside Parbold Hill and Tia, a little girl who lives in a teacup.  Does she save him when he fails to appear?  Could this be the start of a local legend?

The stories and characters have all been on show at Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk. Here's a little taster in case you missed it!
